Aujourd&rsquo;hui, un smartphone derni\u00e8re g\u00e9n\u00e9ration dispose d&rsquo;environ 512 GB de stockage interne. Depuis que l&rsquo;homme sait \u00e9crire, il cherche une \u00ab\u00a0m\u00e9moire externe\u00a0\u00bb. Mais au XIXe si\u00e8cle, tout bascule : il ne s&rsquo;agit plus seulement de noter des mots, mais de <strong>capturer le son<\/strong> et d&rsquo;<strong>automatiser le calcul<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ce cours retrace l&rsquo;\u00e9volution technique qui nous a men\u00e9s du gramophone m\u00e9canique aux centres de donn\u00e9es (Data centers) du Cloud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. L\u2019\u00c8re Analogique : Graver l&rsquo;onde sonore<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Avant le \u00ab\u00a00\u00a0\u00bb et le \u00ab\u00a01\u00a0\u00bb, on stockait des ondes. C\u2019est le domaine du physique et du mouvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Le Gramophone (1887) et le Vinyle (1948) <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Le concept :<\/strong> On grave la vibration du son directement dans une mati\u00e8re (gomme-laque puis PVC). Une aiguille parcourt un sillon et vibre pour reproduire la musique.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>L&rsquo;anecdote :<\/strong> Le disque plat a gagn\u00e9 face au cylindre d&rsquo;Edison car il \u00e9tait plus facile \u00e0 ranger et surtout \u00e0 reproduire en s\u00e9rie gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 une presse.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Capacit\u00e9 :<\/strong> Environ 3 \u00e0 5 minutes par face pour les premiers disques.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Le Pont M\u00e9canique : La naissance du traitement de donn\u00e9es<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>C&rsquo;est ici que l&rsquo;on commence \u00e0 parler de \u00ab\u00a0donn\u00e9es\u00a0\u00bb pour le calcul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">La Carte Perfor\u00e9e (1890) <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Le contexte :<\/strong> Herman Hollerith invente une machine pour le recensement am\u00e9ricain de 1890.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>La technologie :<\/strong> On ne stocke pas de son, mais des informations binaires (trou\u00e9 = oui \/ non trou\u00e9 = non). C&rsquo;est de la <strong>m\u00e9canographie<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>L&rsquo;impact :<\/strong> Le recensement, qui prenait 8 ans \u00e0 la main, est termin\u00e9 en 1 an. La soci\u00e9t\u00e9 d&rsquo;Hollerith deviendra plus tard <strong>IBM<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. L&rsquo;\u00c8re Magn\u00e9tique : L\u2019information devient invisible<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c0 partir des ann\u00e9es 1950, on utilise l&rsquo;aimantation pour enregistrer des donn\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Le premier disque dur : IBM RAMAC 305 (1956)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Le choc des tailles :<\/strong> Il pesait plus d&rsquo;une tonne et avait la taille de deux gros r\u00e9frig\u00e9rateurs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Capacit\u00e9 :<\/strong> 5 Mo. C\u2019est \u00e0 peine le poids d&rsquo;une photo haute d\u00e9finition sur un smartphone d&rsquo;aujourd&rsquo;hui.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">La Disquette (1971 &#8211; 1984) <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>L&rsquo;usage :<\/strong> Enfin un support que l&rsquo;on peut transporter et glisser dans sa sacoche ! La version 3,5 pouces (1,44 Mo) est devenue l&rsquo;ic\u00f4ne universelle du bouton \u00ab\u00a0Enregistrer\u00a0\u00bb.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. L&rsquo;\u00c8re Optique : La lecture par le laser<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On n&rsquo;utilise plus d&rsquo;aiguille ni d&rsquo;aimant, mais un faisceau de lumi\u00e8re.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CD, DVD et Blu-ray <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Le CD (1982) :<\/strong> Stocke 700 Mo.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>L&rsquo;anecdote :<\/em> Sa capacit\u00e9 de 74 minutes a \u00e9t\u00e9 choisie pour contenir la <em>9\u00e8me Symphonie de Beethoven<\/em> sans coupure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Le DVD (1995) :<\/strong> Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un laser plus fin, on stocke 4,7 Go.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Le Blu-ray (2006) :<\/strong> On utilise un laser bleu (d&rsquo;o\u00f9 le nom). C&rsquo;est le triomphe de l&rsquo;\u00e9lectronique pure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">La Cl\u00e9 USB et le SSD (2000 &#8211; Aujourd&rsquo;hui) <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Technologie :<\/strong> La m\u00e9moire \u00ab\u00a0Flash\u00a0\u00bb. Les donn\u00e9es sont pi\u00e9g\u00e9es dans des composants \u00e9lectroniques. C&rsquo;est rapide, silencieux et robuste.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Le Cloud :<\/strong> Ce n&rsquo;est pas un nuage magique !
